The New Lenox facility will be new. We all like new shiny things. However it will cost nearly 1/2 a billion dollars. Money that could be spent on doctors and nurses.
The New Lenox facility will be closer to the people of New Lenox and to people east of Farrel Road. (approximately), however it will be farther away from the majority of population that use it.
Response time and service in emergencies will improve for people east of Farrel Road however Response time and service in emergencies will worsen for the majority of the people who use the hospital which is west of Farrel Road. So some are gaining at the expense of the majority.
Some people dont like driving in an old neighborhood, they will no longer have to subject themselves to seeing old houses.
Lake Michigan water will be used instead of Joliet water. Some prefer one water over another.
There will be 700 new jobs to build the facility, however those jobs could be developed by building on the current site. The project is scheduled for 400 million, if you gave away $100,000 to 1000 people that will only cost 100 million. Think about this, what if 4000 people received $25,000 to put a ten percent down payment on a new $250,000 dollar home, that would be the equivalent of a billion dollar project. You want to talk about all the jobs!!!! The other 300 million could be spent on actual healthcare which would create even more jobs.
Silver Cross Reports all rooms will be private rooms as opposed to 80 percent of rooms being private, is this worth 1/2 a billion dollars? If necessary you can expand on the current campus and build more all private rooms, and more surgical suites in addition to the 35 suites that were opened in the last five years.
In the end the burden of proof is on Silver Cross they must legally prove they need to close down the Joliet Hospital. It would be illegal for them to move just because they want to.
